Has anyone removed the baffles from monster ovals? Wondering if it can be done and what difference it made in sound and if any change in performance (gained or lost). Local dealer said they could remove them.
My only comment is you paid a pretty price for Monster Ovals. Part of that cost included Vance & Hines testing and research to make the Ovals preform at a optimum. By removing the baffles you have defeated the entire purpose and tech advances put into the mufflers. I have friends who have done what you are proposing. To me, it is foolish to spend all that money and then tear out the baffles just to have louder pipes. There must be other choices and cheaper ones as well. Just my opinion.
A friend of mine has V&H true duals that the mufflers are built onto the pipes (not slip-ons). He has taken the baffles out of it and it has not only hurt his performance, but they are obnoxiously loud. So loud that they hurt my ears if I'm next to him and he decides he wants to race. (he's still a kid). My only defense is to beat him off the line when he does that because it literally will hurt my ears. I tried to tell him, but he won't listen.
I really like the looks of the ovals under the bags vs round mufflers, it was just a thought sometime down the road but probably won't do it. Thanks for the input!
I have the Monster Ovals on my 09 FLHRC and love them. But I have started to think I would like a little more sound. Rather than remove the baffles, I'm considering buying aftermarket headers from V&H or Fuel Moto to see if the elimination of the catalytic converters does the trick. Anyone done this?
I will be putting on power duals with the monster ovals this winter. Heard a bike with this setup at the shop but don't know what it sounds like on the road. I did like what it sounded like and love the look!
I had Monster Ovals put on my Ultra Limited before I took delivery. The sound was good, but once summer hit I decided that the cat had to go. I replaced the stock headers with the Power Duals. Sound level went up a little but I can still hear the radio while riding without having to turn the volume up to a level where the speakers distort.
A friend of mine uses my exhaust system as an example of what he wants to put on his Road Glide Ultra.
If I could find a old dented one it would be interesting to cut it open and see how they configured the baffles and chambers to achieve the flow while keeping the noise down...
I run them on my bike with the oem head pipe/with cat and they are just right.
82 db at idle
90 db at 3000 rpm
95 db revved
If you go to a catless aftermarket headpipe they will be louder
