Default Thinking of getting Detachable Hardware

I have a 2012 Ultra Limited and was thinking of getting the detachable hardware to remove the tourpack and giant seat but was wondering how convenient the removable tour pack option really is. May go with a solo seat and small luggage rack when riding solo, but was wondering if it was worth the coin? DO you guys actually put the tour pack on and off, or do you wish you'd have just kept it on permanent?

Use it often and love it. I don't tend to use the CB or radio, so I have removed the antenna and tucked the wires under my seat - this makes the changeover even quicker and easier.

Expensive but worth it in my opinion. Budget for a second seat as well though, standard seat looks out of place without the tourpak. I used a CVO street glide seat from 08, love it

Look at it this way. For the price of the kit and seat you just gained a second bike....a Streetglide! Mine stays off 80% of the summer and i ride 2up almost exclusively. TP goes on for those longer rides, weekend trips and vacation. Just put mine back on 2 weeks ago for the winter.

I use the standard seat plus sissy bar and luggage rack for commuting and the comfortable Touring seat plus King Tour-Pak with it's own luggage rack for vacation. It takes 10 minutes to clean everything, inspect, oil the hinges and detachable locks and I have another bike. The replacement of the seat strap seems time consuming in this case but it makes the seat a bit more difficult to steal.

Concerning the locks, I would appreciate a little dust cover over the keyhole of each lock and be able to have only 1 key instead of 3. Be careful how you mount your locks, the key must turn in the clockwise direction to release the latch and the loop that you catch between your fingers gives a lot of leverage compared to the shallow penetration inside the keyhole. I destroyed one lock simply because the loop of the key touched the cushion of the passenger seat while I turned it. I would opt for something clever and simple like the BRUKUS 'Bullet' system if I had to buy again.

I bought a tour pack with detachable hardware and use it often. I usually ride solo, I have a Mustang solo seat with the removable pillon. When I'm around town and regular riding I have the solo seat on, when I go out of town, I attach the pillon and tour pack, plus luggage if needed, once I get where I'm going I put the tour pack, luggage, and pillon in the hotel, and enjoy myself.

I put the 4 Point Docking Kit, and Tour Pak Bracket on my new Bike. I would say it's on around 50% of the time, I like it. The GF prefers the backrest on the Tour Pak over the Passenger Backrest. Most of the time when she rides along, I need the extra room of a Tour Pak for all her stuff anyways

Mine sits on a Hells Foundry Rack, on a wall in the garage when I'm not using it.

Good Luck

the only reason to spend the money for the detachable kit is if you are using a backrest, only 6 bolts to take it off anyway. I also have a Limited, and it takes a lot more time to deal with all of the wiring than pulling off the tourpack.

Here's the way I would look at this question. I just bought the top of the line motorcycle (not counting CVO's) and it has all the stuff I want for touring. Now I'm going to figure out a way to take that tour pak off and give it that Street Glide look. It may cost $700-$800 to do it, but that's okay. Now, I have that mod complete, but where am I supposed to store this mighty fine tour pak when I want the bike to look like a Street Glide? Oh, no problem, H-D has got storage racks for a couple hundred bucks - I'll buy one of those. So I just spent upwards of $800-$1,000 to take something off the bike that I paid $1,200 for (I think that's about the cost of a tour pak - maybe more if it's painted something other than black).

It makes no sense to me. I just traded in my Street Glide for an Electra Glide Classic so I could have the benefits of a tour-pak. I'm not takin' it off just cause I'm only riding to the store, church, friends, wherever. I bought that tour-pak and I'm ridin' with it - all the time.

My $0.02

I have been thinking about doing this as well. I have a 11 EG Ultra, what is needed in addition to the detach kit? Is the wiring quick disconnect or do I need to cut wires and install connectors like on the older model Ultras? I do not use the CB or radio (listen to CDs) so I think I can just stuff the wires and not worry about relocating. Anything else I need to know about?

Thanks
