Default Control housings

I am thinking of changing out my stock housings & grips with some chrome! I am wondering if there is a decent (price & quality) place online to get these?

I won't use anything but Harley ones , they have cheaper ones out there, but they are not as good IMO.

I'm going with one of the exchange guys off eBay. Less than half the harley price.

They might work, but please be careful. If you have never had a housing open before, you may be surprised at how much wiring is crammed in there and arranged in just the right shape to allow the OEM housing to close. If the cheap knockoff housing is different just by a little inside, then you could end up crushing or pinching a wire or two...causing you tons of headaches trying to figure out what the hell is wrong. It's a risk at the least to use something other than the HD enclosures. I know they are more expensive, but...

Um, do you guys realize that the exchange ones on eBay are the genuine Harley ones that the chrome shops just chrome themselves. Then when you exchange your regular ones, they chrome those, etc. Now, sure, if you don't know what you are doing, then dont try it yourself with any housing, but that said, its not really a difficult swap.

So its the same exact piece. The only issue is how good a chrome job they do. Check their feedback, you should be fine.

IMO, people who paid full harley retail often try to make themselves feel better for spending that much by convincing other's that it is "better" that the other options. Reality? The harley chrome parts are not any different, except they get chromed overseas and packaged by a guy who doesnt speak English. A chrome shop here inspects their own pieces before shipping, though obviously different shops have different standards for whats ok. If you go with a reputable chromer, the only difference you will experience is the extra money in your wallet.

Got an aftermarket set off ebay from Eastern performance. about half the price of the HD ones. Never had any problems. Two years later it still looks good.

Sorry, but that's not what's going on here. I am all about finding a good deal that really works well. Who wants to pay more than they have to pay? And if you have a known good source for these, then all the better. I was just trying to help him avoid an issue. There are in fact some bad housings on the market and they have caused some issues.

I just installed the chrome switch housings and chrome brake and clutch control dress up kit from Kuryakyn on my 05 Electra Glide for $179.00 with shipping. They were $359.95 at HD plus tax. The chrome switch caps I bought at HD for $30. They really look good. But they are very time consuming to install, especially the right side. With 6 switches,2 throttle cables and brake cable, It is very important to watch your wiring when re-assembling. Good luck !

Default Switch housing

I too have installed chrome switch housings and buttons. Keep in mind these are preassembled in china by chineese with little chineese fingers that can fit into these housings. The right switch housing took me 8 hours alone. After that the left side went like a snap. Very tight in there with springs that disappear on a concrete floor. Good Luck, take your time and you can do it.
