So - toward the end of my warrantee I decided to once again ask about the fuel gauge (basically shows empty with 1/2 tank left). The dealer said they could do a float adjustment.
I'm an unhappy camper at this point.
My bike shows 35 miles range when the tank is basically empty.
Anyone know what Harley's procedure is to adjust the float? I need to reverse it. Yes, I probably will ask the shop to do it since they "broke" it - but I still might just do it myself to ensure an acceptable result.
it's open it up and bend the arm, trial and error.
You can get close, but you may be less frustrated to "adapt and overcome"- we didn't have gauges for years.
The odometer is your friend.
pt 2. I was frustrated that with all the advances on my 09, the fuel level indicator was more accurate than the Panhead ( none) and same accuracy as the 88 and the 95.
you'd think that they'd put the 6 hours of engineering to design an accurate system
b.) that the range indicator was smart and would "learn"

The Range indicator learns? Esplain to me Lucy!
With 23 miles "dte", I still can't add more than a little over 4 gallons to the tank...which makes me believe I have a hell of a reserve...and/or the gauge is just junk. Both? Niether?
I've had my 09 King now for over three years and I think I have looked at the gas gauge twice. I always leave the display on range and it has always reached 0/lowfuel with one gallon left in the tank.
It pretty much always takes five gallon to fill a 6 gallon tank.
I also know that my normal range on a full tank is around 220 miles (for the 5 gallons) Yes I get around 45 miles to the gallon. With a stage 1 modified 96 ci motor.
I would be more concerned with the range meter not being acurate verses the fuel gauge.
As far as comparing to older bikes there is no comparision. The old bikes had a three position valve, normal off and reserve. When the bike started running out of gas you shifted to reserve and find a gas station.
This would never work with EFI's unless you like replacing $500.00 doller fuel pumps.
My buddy and I both have 06 Glides, his low light comes on at just under half a tank, mine comes on when it's at just under 1/4 of a tank, when ever we stop and fill up we almost always put in the exact same amout of fuel. When my low fuel light comes on I know I have about 20 miles left. We don't have the DTE feature
I have an 04 Road King with a 5 gallon tank. I have put up to about 4.7 gallons in it and my low fuel light has never come on, even though it is supposed to at 1/2 gallon. I just accept that the gauge isn't all that accurate and reset my trip meter whenever I fill up.
I was trying to express my frustration that the system was from the stone ages and that the onboard system could not gather data, and learn from past trips what the remaining range actually was- seems that an engineer could write code so that even with input from a float on an arm, the system could learn and make compensations

If the module would "learn"...or average out the previous few tanks milage estimate, that would be cool. Then they could also program a rudimentary mpg function on the gage too. Hey! Moco! Are ya listening?
