If you got the SEPST, why not do some recorded runs on your own and Smart tune it? Save the calibration the dealer loaded for reference.

If then the Smart Tune works out the bugs with a start up issue and fine tunes your VE tables, then your good. If it doesn't, then at least you tried, learned alot about EFIs and you can start figuring out a good dyno guy.

Some good posts about Smart Tune and SEPST.

Just a thought.

Call Fuel moto I bet he could get you a good tuner and canned map that would work great with your set up cheaper than 350 bucks.

I guess I'm going to be forced to do the dyno, like you say they will use that statement as their out....
Going today to ask the Installer for another tune......I doubt it will do any good..
Thanks again

Well, how did it go with the Dealer? Did they agree to look over your bike to make sure there wasn't an intake leak? I understand they want you to have your bike dyno tuned, but I think you're entitled to know what is causing your bike to backfire on first cold startup. The Dealership needs to rule out an intake leak and then if there isn't one then you know that you're going to need fine tuning to remedy your problem.

We finally came to a decision between myself and the dealer...I brought the bike back in complaining of a intake leak on the rear piston header pipe...and sure enough not only there, but on the front header as well...
They went over the whole process of tightening every bolt that was removed during the initial installation and numerous blots were loose, including the right side clamp holding the slip on.......at no charge!!
It is now back to normal....no back fires whatsoever. It starts better than it has ever done before. The dealer has again suggested that I arrange to do a dyno run and tune at my earliest convenience so has to improve my gas mileage, which sucks, and to optimize my hp and torque potentials. I will be doing the dyno tune sometime in the near future, the closest Harley dealer that does that work is 74 miles away and they have a month long waiting list....

I want to thank all the folks that suggested the possibility of an air intake leak, which was my initial problem to start with. Keep up the good work.. It's folks like yourself that make this informational board the true success that it is....

Thanks again

Sleepy,, Do you think that your Bad Gas Mileage could be a result of Playing with your new found power ,, I know when I first installed my Cam my mileage went down a lot ,, But after getting use to the new power (stopped playing) my mileage came back ..

Yes of course you're absolutely right on about the fun I'm having with the increased umph that the 103 and the new cams are producing....It's really enjoyable... I've already went up against a stock 103 and a '03 Dyna Low Rider "95 incher.... the results were expected.... I took the 103 stock right from the start and the '03 Low Rider did the same to mine but not quite as bad......
This last Saturday we went for a 226 mile ride and I was riding more conservatively and my mpg increased from 39.1 to 41.7 which isn't that bad really, most of my friends who ride EG Harley's get 42 to 43 mpg on their stock machines.
I'm super happy with the upgrade, it's just good to know that I do have that extra power if I ever need it in a tight bind...
I have been in a few mishaps with cages and I can remember one time where I could have moved out of the way in time to avoid the bItCh if I would have had the Pearl as it is right now!

Absolutely......Just have to resupply my mad money stash, the upgrade blew a large hole in it............LOL
I'm having it done in a distant city ...A friend of mine who races V-Rods uses this person's machine to Dyno all his bikes...He charges $350 but he does more than one run and will not let your bike out of his shop until it's running at peak performance......
At the present time I am having no issues whatsoever with my bike....
The backfiring issue has been addressed (rear cylinder intake leak) and it starts at the flick of a thumb every morning, every time, hot , cold or otherwise.
And it runs like a spotted as$ ape on steroids....Latest 200+ mile run I got 42.3 mpg.......It's improving with each run...
I've got well over 1,500 miles on her now.

On a scale of 1 to 10 ( now that all the issues have been taken care of)
I rate the upgrade a solid 10
