Default Taking Off The Fairing

OK, so I'm no mechanic. I gotta go to the dealer for all my service. BUT, I can turn a screwdriver, and I've done stuff like putting on engine guards & highway pegs, a set of those fillers that go between the saddlebags & fender, some chrome here & there. Basic stuff like that. Think even an amateur like me could handle taking off the fairing & putting it back on? Is it simple enough? I have a blown speaker & the company will replace it, so I wanna do it while it's cold & wet. Any other "novices" like me who have done it?

Inner or outer faiing? Inner fairing takes a lil know how. But take photos and mark everything it can go back together

Outter fairing only, (to get to speakers). Simple job man. Need a T27 torx bit. There is the 3 screws holding the windshield on, 2 screws below your speakers (inner fairing) and 2 more screws inside on the bottowm. you have to turn your handlebars to see them, they are inside next to the forks. Then as you are pullin git off you have to reach in and unplug the heallamp. Piece of cake.

Outer fairing, to get to the speakers, to take the blown one out.

I'm sure he will see this soon enough, but there are 3 screws that hold on the windshield

do a search and buy a manual. Taking the outer fairing off to replace the speaker is a snap. Seven screws, three across the top front, two either side, one below the speaker and one below that goes through the skirt to the fairing. Take them all out except the center windshield screw (top of fairing) put a towel on the front fender in case you drop a screw, tool or the fairing. Remove the last screw while holding the fairing, lift out the windshield and the pull back the fairing and disconnect the headlight harness and its off. When re installing be careful not to over-tighten the screws as this will pull out the threaded inserts or worse crack the fairing around the insert.

Hopes this helps
Good Luck!

Do a search on Faring Removal. There is a posting with pictures and makes it a piece of cake. I changed my speakers and felt very comfortable with it. You can do it.

Taken several off and its a piece of cake. Have a friend help out if possible to help hold the fairing and make sure you put something over the front fender to keep from scratching. Speakers are no brainers to chanhe.
