My indie said that the delay that is because the throttle sensor has to travel the message to the computer then to engine to produce response and is lagged.. ARgh..
Those messages are traveling at the speed of light, I don't think the distance is the issue. I have no response issues with Hester.
The lag most of you feel is torque management to keep the driveline protected, it isn't the throttle blade not responding. You can calibrate the throttle to be as slow or fast as you'd like with the appropriate software.
If anything, like another poster mentioned, I feel the TBW is MORE sensitive at low engine speeds and light loads.
This is just a personal observation no High Tech info, but my 2011 Ultra Classic's throttle respond was slower then my riding brother's 2009 but when I installed the Autotune that all changed now mine is much faster.
Can a TTS be mapped with a canned configuration so you can use until you get to a tuner? Or does it have to be tuned once installed?
There are base maps for the TTS, however the bike will run better with tuning (either professional or done by you).
I have both a cable-throttle bike and a TBW bike. Even when the TBW bike was stock, I preferred it over the cable. Once I adjusted the progressivity, I liked it even more.
That scared the crap out of me the first time till I learned the "turn the throttle" trick..
There should be a Warning in the owners manual

I dont notice any delay or annoying lag in response....seems just like if not better than the throttle cabling Ive had for years? Research any adjustments or perhaps theres something wrong with your, it is after all just a potentiometer and you may have a bad one?

Agreed. Biggest complaint about my last carbed bike was throttle lag, not so now with my 08 TBW.

As has been said, all stock TBW have the lag, but some folks don't notice it because of their riding style.
I don't understand the torque management reasoning however, The EPA mileage explination makes more sense to me, expecially since TBW cars also have the lag.
