Default Let's Talk Lighting

When riding Wednesday and approaching bagger had lights (headlights and passing lamps) that would make and emergency vehicle jealous. They were some the brightest lights I had ever seen. By the time I could get turned around in the traffic he was long gone, so I have no idea what type they were.
Could it have been the LED (part # 73390-10A) light sold at the Harley shops for $525. If not maybe you could tell me what you have upgraded to.
I am not really looking for something to improve night time riding as much as I am trying to find something to make me more visable during the day.

Have a great day!
Jim

Several different opinions on LED headlights...The Trcuk brand LED seems to be the bang for the buck and not nearly the harley tax.

I'll never pay $500 to be more visible. I discovered 10 years ago that amber auxiliary lights are much more visible than white so I switched. It costs me $15 for 2 amber sealed beams each time I get a new bike.

I have HID's, much brighter than OEM, the reason I went to HID is I was leading a group one evening and I noticed the 4th bike back was the bike that got most of my attention, once I found out they had a HID, I was sold from that point on. Within the next month I plan to do a little experiment with an idea I have for my HID, watch for the thread.

One of the 1st upgrades I've always done on every bike (Harley) that I owned was to replace every marker light with LEDs. The cost is fairly minimal and the safety is priceless. The newer SGs have the worst OEM rear lighting that I've ever seen, though I like the look of not have a bulky brake light hanging off the fender.

PIAA: HS1 Bulb Super Plasma GT-X

First thing I have always changed in all my Trucks / Car / Bikes

HS1 Bulb Super Plasma GT-X Single Pack. For the look of HID there is nothing closer than PIAA's new HS1 Super Plasma GT-X. The bulb shines at 5000K giving off a beautiful bluish-purpulish look. With PIAA bulbs you never sacrifice performance and with XTRA technology this bulb delivers 60w/60w, but only draws 35w/35w. Make sure to check PIAA's application guide or your owner's manual to ensure a correct fit.

If you are over 40 your eyes won't see as well with blue-tint bulbs. HID are full spectrum and good for old eyes.

...and in many States- daytime high beam is legal, that's what I do and maybe it equals the use on the 2 filaments.

For my $ the LED isn't there yet.

It will be.

A couple of riders worte up a great comparo between the trucklite, H-D and halogen ( google it). it has great representation of the beam distance and pattern.
By that comparison to my eye, the H-D looked more like what I want when I am looking for elk.

I use PIAA bulbs in my head light and spot lights. They are the best bulbs out there and much cheaper than the HID stuff. I have HID on my Infiniti FX and they are nice but I have been using PIA bulbs for years in every other vehicle with standard type bulbs. The stock bulbs in our scooters are 55 watt low and 65 watt high, PIAA’s are 125 watt low 135 watt high. I very rarely use my high beam most of the time I’m flashing back the cages because they think my low beam is too bright. I also adjust my lenses up to get more of the low beam on the road where I want it. All this means is that I am being seen.

FWIW, (generally not much) I went 100% LED on my '05 Ultra Classic. I made a deal on a package with four turn signals, head light, tail light & two spot lights. I have been out a few times since, but not really late enough to make a true test or judgement yet.
