Default Touring on a Roadking

As some of you know I sold my Limited & went to a Roadking, I'm riding to Sturgis in 2012 & I'm a little concerned about 1200 miles with just a windscreen. I've been looking into a Woodys fairing but with the cost of paint I'm gonna be at $1500 in no time. While I can afford to do it, the cost has me 2nd guessing myself. What are your thoughts?

Thanks,
Clay

ha- ha.

Klay I'm sure you'll be fine with a windshield.

it's not that far, give yourself time ( for weather)- it's more about the seat and back.

I've done many miles with the stock windshield and it's been fine for me. Then again if I ever try a Batwing maybe I would find the RK shield not so good. I have thought about a quick detatch Batwing mainly because I like to convert my bike into different styles.

I did 2300 mi in ten days and a trip from Pensacola to Jersey on mine with a windscreen that is 4" shorter than stock. The only thing I noticed was that my hands were more exposed. But in the summer, that's not much of an issue.

I still have a great time on my King and I'm sure you will, too. Have fun and post some pics for the rest of us!

Don't worry. Except for my hands/arms, my windshield on my RKC gave me as much coverage as my batwing does. I rode that RKC on a number of long trips and once did over 1500 miles on it in 36 hours. No complaints about the windshield. And like you I live on the wet side of the state so ride in rain quite a bit.

Ride all spring and summer without the windshield. Then when it's time to go to Sturgis, putting the windshield on will feel like a total luxury.

I didn't realize how much wind the batwing fairing was blocking until I changed to a RK.
The RK's large shield is ok, but the batwing was much better in my opinion.
Now I'm looking for a removable batwing for my RK, going forwards then backwards LOL

The guy that camped behind me at the Chip this year rode a RK from New Jersey to Sturgis with just a windshield. And, I'm pretty sure he was in his mid-60s. I say go for it.
