i bought the installer/puller on ebay for $104. same one as in the S&S video

http://www.ebay.com/itm/310361136805...84.m1423.l2649

we'll see how it holds up, but it should be fine.

Dumb question, but can you get the cam chest cover off without pulling the headpipe if you just remove the heat shields? This seems like an appropriate place to ask since everybody in this thread has done it themselves.

That video from S&S and J&P cycles is excellent, by the way. I also watched that in it's entirety a couple days ago.

Miller- Gary Beatty sells a combo cam bearing puller/installer tool for about $90, I am sure you could sell it when your done and get your money back, or keep it and rent it out until you have made your money back and then at some point you have a free tool.

Just something else to consider........

You can email him to beattygw@sbcglobal.net

On my '07 there isn't enough room to remove some of the nosecone bolts, so the front head pipe must come off. In my case I had to remove most of the exhaust system as well, which was about the most aggravating part of the job for me. I also did an '09 and it wasn't any fun either, basically the same ordeal.

Yeah I removed the exhaust too but I'm going to a pro pipe
I got the bearings pulled with the blind hole puller and installed them with a round piece of metal we made on the lathe

Also remember that you can put your bearings in the freezer the night before all greased up with some assembly lube, that way the contract and go in the hole a bit easier....just take them out just before you install them...
The way i look at it is i probably will never use these tools again so having them around is a waste....so renting them for free is pretty good price and you don't have to worry about selling it after....
The flip side is the Beatty tool (Installer/remover) is a very nice tool and if you buy one you won't have any problem selling it back to another member here....FAST...
