Pick one you probably won't go wrong.
Actually, recommending 255's or 555/777 is ridiculous because they are vastly different cams. Saying "pick one you probably won't go wrong" is only true from the standpoint that the stock cams suck, and either the 255's or 555/777 will give better performance than stock. OK, I'll agree that far. However, the performance difference between a SE255 and Woods 777 is huge. I guarantee that every person having a chance to ride each of these cams would prefer one over the other by a huge margin. Which one YOU would prefer, no one can predict.

The 255's will give high torque at the low end of the power band. Too low in my opinion. They also have too high cold cranking pressure and retain heat, also IMHO. The 555/777 move the curve a little too far to the right for a bagger as far as I'm concerned.

Better choices for me would be Woods 5-6, 6-6, or Screamin' Eagle 204's. Better low end torque than stock, and lots of power through the mid range and even venturing into the high range. But not performing as well as the 555/777 (and others) above 5K. I'd put the performance of the SE254e somewhere around that of the Woods 555.

All of this is my opinion. Frankly, with cams, no one can offer anything other than opinion. There is no definitive cam choice that works for all people, in all bikes, on all occasions. There is a ton of info on this and other forums. Take the next couple of weeks, search and read. And then, search and read some more.

Don't buy cams until you can answer your questions for yourself.

Thanks all for the advice. My options are limited in the fact that I am using my Chrome Cash, which means that I have to spend it at a dealership. They can order the TLs for me, but I highly doubt they will order the FuelMoto cams for me so I am likely stuck with the SE cams. I'm sure I will be pleased and the responses seem to indicate that the 255s are the way to go with my riding style and big ole fat bike. I like the idea of the dyno tune and may end up there, but for now I can dial in my PCV for free. I'm sure my next purchase after all of this will be a custom dyno tune.

I'm with you. I personally don't care for the 103/255 combination. My preference is for a cam that hits reasonably hard right off idle, but doesn't go all in too early, so there's bigger gains through the mid range. I went with 204s.

Ask 10 guys, get 5 responses. There is a big contingent that likes the 255s, and can't understand why anyone would choose anything else. The rest of us are split among several of the other choices.

I, personally don't have any problems with Screamin' Eagle cams. I'd opt for SE204, SE254E, SE203, and SE255, in that order. I'd prefer any of them over stock cams.

Again it is where you want your powerband to be. For me the 204's are nearly perfect. The 254e will move the power band slightly right and the 203's will move it slightly left from the 204's and either would be acceptable for me. The 255's will move the power band the farthest to the left. Again, too far left for me.

Good luck!

Actually, don't be so **** and get over your serious self..
Lighten' up Francis..

If you read enough of these weekly cam threads, you will see the recommendations from the herd will mostly be, Woods 555/777 and SE 255's.
It's always the same answers... trust me..

Had you noticed, my cams are Fueling Reaper 525's.
They come on @2000 and go out until 5800, w/no weak spots or fall off points.
I've said that more times than I can count too.

Merry Christmas..

Yeah and your experiences illustrate why people should do a lot of reading B4 picking their cam. I've actually read some old posts from you where you were thinking you were going to get 255's. Somewhere B4 your purchase you changed your mind. Since you are happy with the 204's (I would be too) I assume reading and talking to others helped sway you to a cam that would be better for you and your riding. I assume you and I ride similarly since we both seem to have the same taste in performance mods.

Actually I've read hundreds of the "weekly cam threads". And it is true that many prefer the 255 and many prefer the 555/777. But the preferences for either are based on very different performance objectives.

I think stating that you can't go wrong with either is, at best, weak advice.

Almost anything other than stock will give you an actual power band. After that, it just depends on how you like to ride. I rarely go over 5000 so if it's rolling off by then I don't mind the 255's. Maybe 30 years ago I would have wanted the curve further to the right.

Yup, if spending Chrome Cash and chose an SE cam (don't know what brands your dealer will order), I would agree with those choices. I know a few people that have great builds with 204s. To me they seem like an exceptional cam. Blends the best of all worlds.

Good luck and ride safe.

I have done a ton of research for my 06, 88" rkc. I am going with a 95" - 204 build with a sert and 4 hours of dyno.

The more I research the more I like the 204s. I also am having a dealer do the build and the 204 was very close to the Andrews 21 which was my other choice.
