Default Lowering 2011 Ultra Road Glide CVO

What is the best way to lower a Ultra Road Glide CVO, looking for about an inch?

Also any suggestions for moving the tour pack back? I looked at a kit that is made to do so but was told that it would not work on the 2011 due to the wiring for the amp unless I wanted the amp in the tour pack but I have been told that causes overheating issues with the amp/

Any suggestions?

dawg has done a tutorial on moving the tour pak back to a 3rd position- search for it- $5 worth of bolts and some time and smarts

stock they come with 2 positions- they are shipped in the forward position, the dealer is supposed to move to the rearward position for sale, but sometime don't.

Looking at dawgs post, you can see how it lines up and discern if you are forward or back and need to go back farther.

rear lowering, you can use the shocks from a 09 or newer street glide, the shocks are down almost an inch. the lowering is achieved by reducing shock travel by 30% so expect a harsher ride. new $230, lots of take off sets available on the classified board here.
or you can try the lowering blocks on ebay less than $50

or if you feel spendy there are lots of high-dollar aftermarket shock options.

I use the streetglide shocks in town and they are fine at 7 pounds pressure with tourpak off and solo at 230#-

and I swap to stock shocks when touring- smooth ride for 10 hour days. swap takes 20 minutes if that

Dont go with the stock SG or RGC lowered shocks. The reason they can be found cheap is they dont work well.

The least expensive way is to go with the CVO SG or HD Premium Touring Shock (low, 12") they come stock on the CVO SG and CVO RG this year. They can be found on E Bay from Dealers at 430.00 msrp 499.00 if your dealer gives you a 20% discount your close to the e bay price. I have some friends that use them and they are a big improvment over stock.

Next up seems to be the Progressive 940 they are a 13 " shock that uses a compensator spring to allow 1" of sag so the bike rests at 12" like a SG or RGC or any tourer with 12" shocks . best place to buy is from US Moto Man 459.00 if you call them msrp 699.00

Probably the best shock for your bike are the Ohlins custom to your needs by Howard at Motorcycle Metal, he is a sponsor and will give you a great discount and help you get the right ones. They are the most expensive starting in the mid 500 to over a 1000.00 I think depending on the model.

I have changed the oil in my stock 12" HD air shocks and they are definitely better but still lacking. No travel to speak of and no way to set rider sag, even ayt 0 psi they are not right, no sag and then they bottom.

Im between Ohlins ordered from Howard, the 3-3 that will be stock height off the bike but with sag adjusted about the same height as my bike is now

or the Progressive 940. A couple of my friends are running the 940 and they are far better than the HD and prices are good at 459.00. Progressive is willing to make spring changes too if the shocks are a little stiff as some have reported. Progressive also has a free front spring promotion this month if you buy shocks.

I just lowered my RKC. If you need a full inch you have to lower the front and back. I put Progressive monotubes in the front and went with 12" HD lowering shocks in the back. Mostly I went with the HD shocks because they were cheap and easy to replace later. This kept the imediate cost down.

I lowered my Ultra with the SG shocks and I think they work well. Definitely got my heels to the ground and still retain the stock air shock system.

If all you need is down an inch, try a custom made seat. That way you will have your stock ground clarence and ride.
