Engine mods?
Should they add $3K to the value of a bike when being resold?
People make these kind of mods to a bike to increase their enjoyment of it, but you usually plan to keep it a while as you know you will lose out on resale.

The shovel is quiet, has a comfortable ride and is boring as can be, but is a great bike.
I rode it from Phoenix to Flagstaff and back and I was not fatigued at all. The sporty is light
and quick, works OK for riding in town - on the highway, not so much. The hot rod gives
me a chubby everytime I fire it up. It is loud and powerful, will pull wheelies in 3 gears and
smokes most bikes up to 110 CI. I rode it from Deadwood through the Badlands and back
in 110 + temps and a crosswind. I was thankful to have the extra power a few times crossing
the open areas. After riding all of them I've made the decision to ride the hot rod and sell
the others.
All 3 were purchased used. I have done extensive cosmetic work to the shovelhead with
minor tuning on the engine. The engine runs great. The sporty has developed a carb problem,
other than that no issues in 2,000 miles. The hot rod has clocked about 6,000 miles and I
have not touched the engine
To be honest, I don't know if I would find a stock engine satisfying after having the extra. I
filled at the same time as a friend with '05 RK and my mileage was 1/10 of a MPG better than
the RK. A rodded engine can be dependable and economical when done right.
