if i relocate the whip from the mount/post would adding wire from the two work just the same? what im thinking is to move the metal mount/post from the tourpak to a spot say under the seat, then running wire from there to the shorty whips at a different locationand securing the wire extension with a screw the same size as the metal mount/post... would this work?
make it easy on yourself, either get the relocation kit, like comes with the detachable tour pak, and use a stubby, or put a autozone $8 stubby inside the fairing.
don't bother with any of the ebay 'powered" antenna kits
i want to keep the tourpak on, but the stock whips would pop me in the face and the shorty gets caught up under my arm pit. i want a clean tourpak but dont want to spend the money on the hidden set up from hd as im told and heard that it doent work well. i was going to put the shortys in behind the bags, but will the wire extension deal from the shorty to the stock mount/post work?
the cb is more complicated. ( and I have a classic- no use for CB)
I'd suggest you look at an all in-fairing solution the am/fm is pretty forgiving, but the cb antenna needs to be properly set up to work well.
( antennas are tuned to the frequency range in which they work).
I'm not sure what you mean about armpit...the stubby in my photo above stays like that even with the tourpak on, it doesn't hit it.
the performance is probably 80% of the stock tall antenna- but I'm ok with that trade off for the areas where I roam- when in the real boonies i use the ipod or XM

This is critical only if you transmit. High SWR won't hurt the radio if all it does is receive. You start changing the CB antenna without checking your SWRs, you stand a good chance of burning out the finals in your CB.

that's all alien to me but, would adding wire from the post/ mount to the whip change anything? Altering the tenna itself I understand, but from mount to the tenna....?
if the stock SG mounts work wiff tour paid then maybe that's the route. I tough they would hit the tour pak.
I have both JM antennas in fairing. Don't use CB so I don't know how well that one works. As far as JM am/fm/wx fairing antenna, I find it works pretty well and it is powered under the fairing. I wired mine in and it was easy. I had the hog tunes fairing antenna (non powered). It did not work well at all. Check out J&Ms website for more info.
If you want just lay the antenna cables(radio and c.b.) in your saddle bags(one on each side) with short whips and shut the lids. you should get good reception and you don't have to drill anything.
