That's about it with respect to the motor. Several other things on the bike have broken or failed, but nothing to strand me. The bike is starting to make more top end (valvetrain) noise than it has previously, but I am at the tail end of the oil life so maybe that's it. My '04 Wide Glide starting making more valvetrain clatter at around 40K too so maybe it's normal for that "age", who knows...
- Rear pulley & IDS failure
- Compensator failure
- Clutch failure
- Top end of engine "came loose" (literally, that was the explanation)
- Chrome flaking on both wheels
- Stereo failure
- Stator failure
I'm forgetting something else. I know there was an electrical connector inside the fairing that broke too.
I haven't counted the miles, but I have been around the block more than once, way more than 20-25K.
So far I've had:
A bad back
Bad knees, surgery on one.
Arthritis in one hand from braking it a couple times
Broken collar bone (motorcycle accident...drunk and stupid)
Broken foot (motorcycle accident....car left turn in front of me)
Road rash on back (motorcycle accident....rear ended at 75mph on the freeway)
The good news is, I don't get sick, I haven't had a cold since 1987.
My wife says she is not ready to trade me in so I think I still have a few miles left in me.
08 RG, no engine problems at all after 52K. Tore it down for 103 build and cyclinder walls looked great, oil pump looked good. A bit more carbon on the pistons than I would liked to have seen, but that's the nature of these aircooled beasts. Keep the fluids changed and just keep riding.
