I know it is hugely popular on this forum to grab the die grinder or dremel and start grinding away on the inner primary to remove stators, usually for a comp change, but I would have to believe H-D put that lip in there for a reason. I have heard it stated a few times that lip is for oil to pool behind and be picked up by the front sprocket, but regardless it must be there for a reason otherwise H-D would have just enlarged or moved the cover forward instead of creating the lip. It is not a huge amount of work to get the primary off, the hardest part is getting at the starter bolts on the older bikes with the rear cylinder Y-pipe. If you have an 09 or newer or changed the exhaust then its really no big deal. Also pulling the inner lets you check out the inner primary bearing and race for wear or failure, which have shown to be a weak point.
lots of usefull info there im guessing it is a problem with the leak , but i dont get why harley didnt put the bloody hole str8 up as in at the top of primary so even if you filled the da mn thing rite up it still wouldnt leak out !!!!!!! , me thinks im gunna do the sikaflex thing until i get some dosh to do a belt/ or se comp ! oh and you two buga's make up hey rofl
If it is still under warrenty take it to the dealer and pay the 50 bucks. My 07 ultra with 79K just started to leak there and the warrenty covered it. No recall just plainly covered under warrenty. my 2cents.

I won't grind the inner primary lip as a shortcut either. It might or might not be a good idea, the only thing you can say for sure it that it's a faster way to access the stator. Pulling the inner primary might be a little more time consuming (not much), but it's certainly not wrong.
I'm going to throw another idea out there. I also thought mine was leaking awhile back and left it go for a couple of weeks. Well, it started to drip and I was just about to tear into it. I started looking around and found out it was my oil cooler adapter that was leaking. When the adapter first started leaking, it must have migrated to the left side of the bike and then the wind caught it and threw it right on to that grommet. So, before you tear into anything, look around real good first. You just never know.
