You have to remove the inner primary along with the compensator and stator to get to the wires that go through the case. The rubber grommet that has the wires running through it has been known to leak. You can try using some Hi-temp silicone sealer (use black) on the outside where the wires come through and this will usually stop the leak. Remember to let the sealer dry before using the bike.
thanks guys will see what happens over the next few weeks , interesting about the "customer satisfaction"recall mite look into that as well cheers guys

Had to be done on mine at 37k miles luckly it was under warranty.
Smokin's got it all wrong. You do not have to remove the inner primary. Needs to practice more of his sig quote before giving advice on things he's unfamiliar with.
Everything but the inner primary will have to be removed to replace the stator.
Been there, done that.
Just sayin'

Before YOU pounce on someone else maybe YOU should read a service manual. The OP bike is an 09' and it clearly states in the manual for alternator removal to "remove the primary chain case housing". It goes on to say remove the stator in order to get at the grommet with needle nose pliers from the inside while pushing from the outside. There are pictures if you can't read.
