Default Which cams or other engine mods should I do??? HELP!

I'm a newbie here when it comes to engine mods and increasing torque/horsepower, so I've come to the forum looking for help.

I have recently purchased a Rush 2:1 full system exhaust to go on my stock 96" 2010 Road King w/ Stage 1 air cleaner. Here's a link to the exhaust, as many may not be familiar with it: http://www.epiflex.com/touringfullsystem.html.

My goal is to increase torque in the low and mid range as much as possible without breaking the bank. Not really looking to make it a top end drag racer. Just want some grunt from start and passing power. What are my options???

I've thought about just adding different cams, but wasn't sure which ones or if other engine mods should be done along with it to prevent damage. Should I fork over the extra dough and get the big bore stage II kit with new cams or just insatll different cams??? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Stay with the 96" and put either a SE 255 or Andrews 48H Can in your bike and you will be Very Happy,,

Question do you have a Tachometer ??

So w/that in mind and seeing the course where these previous/similar threads have run I will say use the "Search" feature of this forum and say happy readin.'

As you stated yourself, there are MANY, MANY threads concerning cams, engine mods, etc. With that in mind, I thought I could state specifically what MY bike currently has, and what I wanted to get out of it, in order to get some specific suggestions for ME. Trust me, I know how to use the "Search" feature. Just figured I could get HELPFUL answers easier concerning my specific bike and needs by asking.

Just start off with the cams ross. Andrews 21s or 26s. No need to get all silly at one time, unless ya got lots of loot to blow!
Figure your build by how (and where) you ride. Ensure all future components are compatible.

Thanks, Beav. Would the Andrews 21s or 26s be usable if I decided to do the Big Bore Stage 1 upgrade to 103" down the road? Like I said...I'm pretty ignorant to this stuff.

Well, that makes you the same as the rest of us. I would describe my goals the same way, and in fact I think that pretty much describes 98% of the riders on the forum who are looking to boost their performance a little.

What rpm range do you ride in? Where do you normally shift? Where do you shift when you're getting on it? Pay attention when you go out, you might be surprised at how much higher your rpms normally are vs what you would describe as your normal range.

Do you ride 2-up, spend a lot of time touring heavily loaded or pulling a trailer?

Are you a long mile rider, or spend more time doing short hops? Commute to work every day?

Is fuel mileage more important than performance, or vice versa? Do you care if your buddie beats you light to light, or down the onramp, or would you rather keep him in your rearview?

Do you want a showy idle? When you pull into the dealership, do you want the other riders to notice your bike for the way it sounds and idles, or would you rather they not notice you at all? (be honest). Does a little valvetrain noise bother you, or do you like the mechanical sound of your pushrod motor?

Are you planning future mods, like bigger pistons or ported heads?

Lots of things will shape how you build your motor. The more you know about how you ride and what you want, the higher your satisfaction is going to be with the results.
