I have a 1998 Road Glide that fried two power comanders in the past year. It is now back to being a stock harley. When going on ride it shuts all power off and dyes without warning. I can ride it for a few miles or for long rides and it just randomly dyes. It happens at all speeds and does not matter what gear I am in. When it dyes all gauges, lights.....etc goes out. When I turn the key off and then back on it fires back up. Does anyone have any ideal of what could be causing this to happen?
ignition switch contacts can burn out on that era touring bike, especially if extra high watt bulbs are used fr headlight/spots
main circuit breaker, replace with 50 amp ( they do wear out)
there may be a tip over switch on your bike ( fuel injected?) on that era bike they had problems with the mounting bracket for the tip over switch breaking, the switch swings on it's wires, and trips on curves and bumps- that kills power to the ignition--- usually the headlight/radio etc keep working.
do the breaker first- easiest cheapest.
check VIN to see if your model was recalled for the switch and if it was replaced or not.
welcome to the forums--- Dawg is hitting this thread, I defer to his knowledge....
