DAWG, 06 street glide.. bought it last year pretty much stock.looking to up grade bars to 12" monkey bagger bars, painted inner
fairing. would like to do chrome forks to but think the bars are going to be all i'll have $$$$ for this year.
If your bike is stock and has the stock exhaust it will have to come off to change out the clutch cable. Since it will be coming off, it would be a good time to open the cam chest and check the stock tensioners as they are the weak point. I don't know how many miles you have on the scoot. Usually 20-30k is when they get checked as there is no rhyme or reason as to when they let go. If you have a fresh tranny fluid change and don't want to drop/waste the tranny fluid, you can put the wheels up onto 2x4's and lean it way over to the left on the jiffy stand and you will only lose a few drops of tranny fluid.
looking to do bagger bars and i,m more worried about doing the clutch cable then running the wires. have a service manual ordered . can it be done with the manual easily?
For me it was like digging a ditch. Its not easy, but it is simple. Changing the cable actualy is easy, it getting the exhaust apart that is a bithc (as previously mentioned). It is well worth the savings though, provided yo like to wrench...
I did not take my exhaust off the bike. I took a Allen wrench and shortened the elbow a little and it worked just fine. Lucky I guess.
But to answer the question take your time and if you run into anything then just ask.
