Dawg, I happen to have my cam cover off now for powder coating, and was wondering about the tensioners. What exactly am I looking for in terms of wear? I mean they look good (not chewed up or anything) and they look like they're providing adequate tension on the chain.
Thanks!
(P.S. sorry for the thread hijack, just did'nt want to start a whole new thread, plus this info will probably be useful to the OP)
I did not take my exhaust off the bike. I took a Allen wrench and shortened the elbow a little and it worked just fine. Lucky I guess.
But to answer the question take your time and if you run into anything then just ask.
That's what I did last week. The service manual wanted me remove the exhaust and I said screw you. 2011 RKC.

Yours is 07 so you have the good tensioners and not the spring loaded tensioners like 99-06 so yours should be good for many miles. In any event, look at the pad for wear or pitting.

09 and later you can, 08 and earlier it ain't happening.
Dang, I was getting excited about the prospect of not having to take the exhaust off. That being said, why don't we all just change that socket head screw to a high grade bolt? Jeez, wouldn't that have been a great idea last time I had the ('02) exhaust was off.....
Geez, payin a H-D dealership mechanic to change your clutch cable is like payin him to check your tire pressure. 1) it's dirt simple to do, and 2) I wouldn't count on it bein done right, and c) they wouldn't accept responsibility for it not bein done right.
