Does anyone have a diagram for the clutch on a 1984 ironhead. Yesterday while I was riding the clutch cable got stiff and then snapped. I almost didn't make it home. I popped off the primary cover and can't really tell what's going on except that the fluids are thick as grease and has a hint of water in it. The diagram would be a great help and any advice would be greatly appreciated also.
Good schematic diagrams in the factory service manual and parts books. However, you may not need them. Drain the fluid, clean it up in there, put it back together with a new cable, ensure the cable is completely free along its entire length, follow the rather detailed 6-step instructions in the service manual to adjust the cable, then the clutch, and then fine tune the cable adjustment.
Note that this is quite a different procedure from clutch cable adjustment for most bikes.
I assume you do not yet have the manuals. You definitely need both. A Clymer and/or a Haynes is a good extra. The HD shops can order the manuals for you. Also J&P Cycles. May be cheaper to get them from eBay or other internet sources.
