Exhaust standards
Does anyone have information on the EPA exhaust standards/requirements?
I remember hearing something about there being newer standards. That they are effective as of 2012 or 2013. That they may be retroactive to some point. That they may have to have an EPA approval embedded into the exhaust pipe/system for sound/pollutants. But I have not heard of any specifics.
Are the standards for sound only? Or, for pollutants? Or, for both?
I am in Kalifornia and expect that any federal standards to be stricktly enforced. I have a 2011 103 FLHRC and believe I squeeked under the law(s). But do not know for sure.
I suppose it will not be much longer that smog checks will be required here. But that is another thread. This thread is about exhaust systems.
Any reliable input?
there you get facts, not guesses.
Just about everybody has a shed in the yard for old pipes, just in case you need to put them back on
We have had tailpipe emissions testing in parts of AZ and it appears to be getting phased out.
very few bikes fail the test, and the standards are very loose ( as they need to be for an air cooled motor). so the net gain has been minimal even while air standards violations are on the rise here- bikes aren't much of it and the fees etc. are seen to be onerous.
Some localities are tough on pipes, just like newport or huntington are particularly bike friendly.
