So over this last indian winter weekend i sacraficed some riding time to put new bars and speakers on a fellow club brothers new 12' limited.
he decided to do the 14 wild one bagger bars, sacs grips, sterling chromite 2 upper brakeline and clutch, i extended the wiring, and the cables all +8 and it went pretty smooth. while i had it tore down he bought the hogtunes big ultra kit. so i added that back into the build. total time was around 8 hrs of not really busting hump (id have prolly gotten it done quicker if the peanut gallery didnt all come and go.) note to self make the bar stools dissapear before the next build lol
overall thoughts and impressions i am 6' 0" and they are a little tall for me for every day as my hands are above my shoulders which makes them illegial in indiana. but he is 6' 4" and they are perfect for him.
i must say the hogtunes kit for a plug and play is a very decent system for the money 375 ish to have an amp and 4 new speakers thats all plug and play
no he dumped the factory heated grips to go to sacks...as far as being able to re use them it shouldnt be an issue you will have to cut and splice 2 wires on the throttle side and 4 wires on the control side. to my knowdlege noone offers a ext kit like they do for the hand controls and the tbw i offered to extend those so he could keep the heated function..id want them..your hands are a ways above the fairing.
i will say i did like the fact that the grips are internally wired on the limited as opposed to external if you buy them ad add them to your bike
i suppose if i were to do it again i might do the plus 10 wire ext kit. the plus 8 on the tbw was more than fine. i used the namz kit that has both the male and female connectors already on them then i saudered the joint so one dosnt come unpluged while pulling the wires through.
How does your friend like the bars. I have a 12 SG and was thinking about getting those very bars for my bike. I'm 6-3, almost 6-4 and want my hands about shoulder height. My 07 RKC had 14" chubbys and they were perfect. Actually they were a little below my shoulders.
he likes them for sure...he had 13's on his old road king but it had a lower seat, with the larger taller seat on the ultra is why he decided to go 14 to try and stay what he was use to.
i think he needs a light smoke shield now..but its deff clean install
the namz kit even tho it doesnt stagger the wires is a nice way to do plug em in and i sauder the joint so they cant come unpluged..sure its about 30 bucks more than if you just use whatever wire but it takes far less time and i know i dont have to worry about it down the road
