Default Speaker confusion Hertz 3 ohm ???

The Titan / Hertz speakers that biketronics sell are rated a 3 ohms. All the amps are 2 or 4 ohms.
I was thinking about either a 2 channel ARC or ELF. (rated 2ohm)
Or if I go 4 channel the RF PBR300X4. (rated 4ohm)
Will either of these work?

Also, are the Hertz that much better than say RF or Polk?

I have the same hertz and I asked the question to to Biketronics. Their answer was that these speakers are rated at 3.7 ohm practically a 4 ohms. According to them the RF amp will work perfectly fine.

Its not an rf amp. Its an af amp. Impedence looks close enough for govt work. Go for it!

3.7 ohms plus speaker wire and connectors equals at least 4 ohms, that was explained in another application with a similar configuration. The point I heard was you should take into account the setup and the resistance measured at that point after installation hardware.

So if I go with the Rockford Fosgate amp PBR300X4 I can put these Titans up front and any other 4 ohm speaker in the rear pods with no problem?

I've had them on 2 bikes (09 Classic & now 11 103 LTD Ultra), since April of 2010, along with the ARC Mini 125.2 amp. They're just fine. Sound great.

Here is some background on connecting speakers to amplifiers, it may be helpful:

- Speakers resistance should be equal or higher than the resistance the amplifiers are rated for
- Technically you can connect lower resistance speakers to amplifiers rated for higher resistance provided you make sure you never crank the volume up more than half (difficult to always watch for)
- If you connect higher resistance speaker to lower output resistance amplifier there will be some loss of power. In most case one will not be able to notice it since:
* Doubling the electrical power does not equate to doubling the acoustical power (acoustical pressure), it is less than that
* Human ear sensitivity has logarithmical curve. What it means is that the actual acoustical pressure of a sound has to increase 10 times for a human ear to detect/ recognize two times increase of sound volume
Most modern amplifiers have self-protection against short in the speakers and overloading. So, if you do mismatch speakers/ amplifiers nothing gets damaged.
On the other hand speakers usually have no protection against overloading, they rely on the protection and volume limiting built in the amplifiers.
If you connect 2 Ohm speakers to an amplifier rated for 4 Ohms you have good chances of cooking your speakers up.
