Thanks for the replies. My Dad is 66 and unfortunalty his eyes have never been super strong. He's had glasses all his life. 2 years ago, he needed surgery on one eye to partially reattatch a part of his retina is one eye.

Even with Shades on underneath his visor the sun glare was just to bright for him. Now that I know, I'll be making sure to plan the timing of our rides to avoid the sunrises and sunsets. Riding with my Dad is one of the biggest joys in my life, so working the riding schedule around him is not an issue.

Ride safe guys!

The Sun can be very blinding in split second - I had a simular close call riding back down from Virgina City in NV last Sept as the sun was going down - rounded a turn and "Wham" it was like being hit with a Huge light - I was able to come to a safe stop - scared the crap out of me... Made me a big believer on taking notice with the Sun and where it is when riding... Glad to hear your Dad is OK... Live and learn

It can work the other way too. I try never to put myself where the sun is at my back when it's going down....especially when riding in the city.
Too great a chance that someone fails to see you because the sun is in their eyes, and they make a turn in front of you. I plan the route I take on summer evening rides with this in mind.

Glad to hear he is ok. I,m 58 and I use a pair of yellow/amber riding glasses at dusk or evening. It seems to help me. It brightenes up things a bit. Just a thought.!!!

Man several times this fall I have rounded a curve here in these Mountains and been sun blinded. S I have started South and west in the afternoons so by evenings I'm rideing east and north so the sun is at my back. Or start getting home before that last hour of sunlight is blistering the eyeballs, or just find a setting spot for that time and ride home at dark.

I am 65 and I don't like riding at night anymore. Used to love it, but now my night vision is crappy. I have some blurriness when looking at red and green lights, and my depth perception is reduced a little. I am farsighted in the day time but at night, I just don't see in the distance very well.

My riding partner will be 69 next month. He is beginning to worry me a little because he misreads traffic once in a while. Otherwise he is good, great reaction times and so on.

Getting older isn't for wimps, let me tell ya.[8D]
