J&M 250 amp&7.25 rokkers.. Sounds like crap, my settings wrong?
So, I installed my J&M amp and 7.25 inch rokkers, and I have to say, there is ZERO bass on these. I bought the amp used and it has all the setting available for the amp, so maybe I'm doing it wrong.
For these speakers to be hooked up to my stock HK radio thought the amp, I have to have it on HIGH PASS to get any volume without these speakers sounding distorted off the bat.
There are three settings, LOW PASS,HIGH PASS, FULL. I called J&M they said it had to be set to LOW PASS on the stock HK radio. Did this... Sounds like junk at low levels.
In order to get any volume out of these speakers I have to have it on high pass, which basically cuts out all the low end bass to these speakers and leaves me with a tinny high pitch sounding set of speakers.
I would not run those speakers without a highpass crossover.. It's simply too much power for frequencies below 50Hz on those drivers... They will over extend and likely pop the voicecoil right off the pole...
Set highpass and roll the crossover back until you hear some bass but no popping...
I used to run that setup and you should be able to obtain enough bass to feel it in your chest.
I havent heard this set up sound good to me yet... no matter what settings you are running. Even visted their booth in Daytona to take a listen... sounds like someone singing reall loud into a tin can to me. If you have tried all 3 settings and you are still not happy with the sound... I think you are just among the rest of the folks who expected more out of that system unfortunately.
