I have a 2011 SG and my riding is about 50/50 solo and double. Thinking about upgrading to 13" 440 series progressive shocks. I'm not that impressed with the air shocks and am putting on monster ovals this winter and have heard they can drag with lowered suspension. Anybody using these? Thanks!
I put 440's on my bike, they were OK, a vast improvement over the POS HD shocks.
I didn't get the full benefit of the 440's until I put Progressive internals in the forks, THEN the bike rode and handled infinitely better,
My best suggestion, do both at the same time you won't regret it.
what is your weight and did you get hd or standard 440's? If you have them cranked down my guess is your topping out. I had 440's standard springs and early on I had the preload set too high and initially I did not realize they were topping out which gave a bad ride. When I backed off on the preload I had a great ride. That was on an 04 egc. I know have a 2011RGU and 940's. I think if I had to do it over again I would stick with 440's as the 940's are very stiff and even on the preload all the way backed off they still do not sag enough for my 200-210 lb weight.
Im running the 940 with the lighter spring set up available from Progressive. They are great, a big improvement over the stock shocks. Ive only had them a few weeks now (about 450 miles), but hands down better than the stock FLTRX shocks.
If you are in the 225 or less weight range you may want to contact Progressive and have the springs changed. Stock the 940 are set up with a 115-150 lb spring that is the same range as the 440HD and set up for heavy riders or 2 up most of the time.
Teh 940 is their top of the line shock uses the same tech as the 440 but will give you the ride of a 13" at the 12 in ride height.
Progressive Tech has been great with helping me out and they are willing to change out the springs at no charge if the shocks are to stiff for you after trying them out. Im told that they are looking at offering the 940 in the future as a standard and HD so that you would not have to send them back if you are a lighter rider.
For the $ they are a great buy and 940 can be found for the same price as the 440 if you buy from Usmotoman off ebay they are available at $ 459

believe it or not I started the usmotoman $459 deal lol. Progressive has offered to do the upgrade and I will wait until I get a few miles on them to decide as I got them as winter set in and the suspension tech at Progressive said they would settle in a bit after 500 miles or so.

I had the exact same experience with my standard 440s and they topped out. Worked with the preload and great ride now. Any spring system should be an improvement over OEM air shocks.

So are you saying I could get the 940 at usmotoman (funny I was just there before deciding I better search for more nfo here) and if they're too stiff Progressive will do the modification? I sit right at 220 but do some travel with my wife at about 115 and luggage so I don't know if the stock 940 would be good or not???
I'm surprised it took 11 posts for someone to mention Ohlins.
I am looking at the 940s. I'm 200 (give or take a couple pounds depending on the season), ride solo about 75% of the time, and the fiance is about 115. I like a firm ride. They are good shocks for the price for sure. I most likely will be giving them a try. If not, I'll spend the extra few hundred for the Ohlins.

Used them for 2 years. Are they worth it? No. IMHO buy Ohlins. Just sayin!! Better then stock? Perhaps but slightly.
