The stock air shocks for the SG suck! I went to progressive a few years back and after a few months I took them off because they were topping out over certain type bumps. I had numerous conversations with customer service and they wanted me to send the shocks back to them so they could fire (heat) treat the springs. I told them to forget it, I sold the shocks and purchased standard shocks from an Ultra. They are great, big difference from those lower SG pieces of crap!
I weigh 200lbs and the progressive 440's were standard spring load. The service manager at harley rode my big and the shocks were ok, no topping out but he weighed about +280! For me it was a negative experience and I would never spend the cash for Progressive shocks, ever.
sounds like they wanted to try and make you happy.

They did try to come up with a solution but I didn't want a new pair of shocks that are supposed to work properly out of the box (so much hype for these shocks) to be fire treated. First off I didn't want the hassle of sending them back and forth, uninstalling and re-installing etc. There obviously was some sort of problem why they didn't perform as advertised. I ordered the proper spring load for my weight so that was not the reason for them topping out over certain type of bumps.
I figured for the money I was spending on them they should work properly, right from the get-go.
I have a 09 SG and got a new set of 440's about a year ago, and was not happy with the ride. I eventually went back to the air shocks. Talking with progressive I later found out that they really would not help me out alot because I only weigh about 155 lbs. They are better suited for a heavier rider, atleast that is what they said. Never know who you can trust anymore!! Why they didnt say that before I spent $600.00??? Any how if your interested they are just sitting in my HD Cabnet. Make me an offer?? edge2edge@comcast.net
+1 on that. Have about 35k on the setup and could not be happier.
Amen - phenomenal set up. Run the mono tubes in the front end. Amazing the difference in control, stability and feel. Run the 12.5" 440 HD shocks in the rear. The HD set up with the stronger spring makes all the difference in giving you flexibility if you are riding solo or two up. Highly recommend, again based soley on my comfortable rear!
you get a bigger discount if you give your word to write a positive review. Well of course everyone wants a bigger discount and most people if they give their word they are going to keep it so just not something I wanted to deal with. I have had 2 sets of Ohlins in the past and they are great shocks, they do/should to be rebuilt every 10-15,000 miles for optimum performance. I know most probably do not rebuild them as they degrade slowly so many don't evenrealize that they need rebuilding. It is funny tho if you get them rebuilt you go wow.
I have never, ever, asked anyone to write anything but the truth, I really dislike anyone who does not tell the truth. I told you and everyone on earth exactly this statement and this discount only applies for HDF members only "If you so wish the 2nd discount for writing a real, 100% true experience, I will take you at your word, than the additional (-)$ XX credit will apply so your final price could be $XXX". There are every other Ohlins customers on this forum who have talked/bought from me will tell you the same. I stated that, when asked what they should write about, I stated: any subject that the customer wished to discuss and they find important to themselves and benefit other members, just as long as it is the truth. The
Ohlins, using them on baggers, under normal street conditions, should be rebuilt every 30K~35K miles. I have taken pictures of a pair of forum members shocks who put 35K on the clock in one year. I am an authorized service center and I rebuild them myself, either by sending them in or making an appointment than driving in. Shocks cost $75 + parts to rebuild on all shock models.
