Default Windshield 2012 Street Glide

The stock windshield on my bike is a little low for me. I found one that I like on the net but I am not sure of what size to order. I am about 6'2" and am looking at a 7" dark grey shield. I do not want to go too high as I do not want to kill the sleek look of the street glide fairing, however I do want it to route the bugs over my face/helment. Has anyone replaced and what length would you recommend? Thanks in advance

I have 4 different windshields I use depending on time of year or where I am going. I have a Klock Werks 6.5" that looks great and also functions well. I have an 8" and 9.5" as well for more protection. SG shields are cheap on ebay so just try a couple and see what works. To answer your question the 7" would be about as tall as you can go and keep the good looks. Another thought is to get a low profile seat to sit you lower so you won't need as tall a windshield.

I am about 5'.9", and I have a 9" Fastair aerodynamic windshield, and this is what I have learned from the windshield.
The top edge of the windshield is lined up to my upper lip, which is a little lower than manufacturer's suggestion, but I have plentiful of clearance to look over the windshield. I am very happy!
I have done a non-scientific experiment by putting my hand at the space on the top of the windshield to see whether there is any wind blowing against at my hand. Below is what I've found:
  • At speed below 45 MPH, wind blows against my hand at the position of 2 inches from the top edge of the windshield.
  • At speed above 60 MPH, wind blows against my hand about 6 inches from the top edge of the windshield.
Amazingly, there is no wind at all at the space below my hand. But then, that is the top, most of the wind is coming from the lower section, below the fairing.

With your height, I think you should go with the shield that has the height of 10".
I have also learned that to reduce most of the wind blow into your face, you need to invest is a pair of lower wind deflector (fork mount). Currently cost around $56 plus shipping.

Hope this help
Nick

I went with a Freedomshield re-curve. Awesome piece. They will also let you test ride it to see if it fits. You can swap it out without any problems if you need a different height.

i just put a 9.5 clear view recurve on mine haven't ridden with it yet. Not sure if i like it or not looks wise. I love the 6.5 that came with it but my head buffets bad even with a full face helmet. Im 6.0 and had this one on my ultra. I went thru a few on my ultra a 10.5 this one and was not happy. Ill ride with this one tomorrow on the SG and see if there is a difference
