Default License plate wiring question

Yesterday I installed a 2009 Street Glide rear turn signal bar that also has a license plate light on my 2010 Ultra Limited. I did this so that my plate was low and to get rid of the large stock turn signal bar.

My question is, what would be the best way to hook up the license plate light? There are no empty spaces in the plugs under the tail light and I really don't want to cut any wires if I dont have to. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Just did the exact same thing on my limited this weekend. Had to solder the plate wires to the metal contacts of the plug.just took the plug apart and slid the termnals outand solderd and put back together. Only drawback is if you have to disassemble later you will have to cut plate wires and install another plug so you can separate the two. No big deal though and you can leave factory harness in tact

on my Road King, for a Radiantz LED plate bracket, I spliced the hot lead into the blue wire in the brake light assembly. So I didn't cut any wires, just the insulation on the blue wire.

Keith means blue wire for the run, I think ( red is brake, black is ground)

with the license plate light you can strip back the insulation exposing the strands.

then remove a plug which has power for the run light ( such as fender tip light),
insert the wire strands into the plug recess ( correct polarity), then put the plug back over the posts.

you could use 3M wire taps but the above was tidier for me.

if you solder, solder to the circuit block and use strain relief, such as gob of silicone or hot melt glue.

solder joints can fail due to vibration on bikes.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies.

Bigdog, does your plate sit right on top of the fender tip light like mine? I'm not real crazy about it but I guess I dont have much choice.
