I have the Black 2:1 Supermeg on the bike. Ya I ride in the rain, so I guess a little rust is to be expected.
I'm thinking the acidic ph 6.0 rain water and the heat of the exhaust contributed to it. I was a little choked when the rust appeared after only 6 months.
So, sandblaster at work, and some VHT Header paint, and she's all better.
I wasn't super keen on the VHT, as it scratched easily, had a powdery feel.
Anyhow its back on now, after a little swearing at pipe-clamps. I heated 'em up by running for a bit, and saw a bit of smoke off them. I'm thinking another heat cycle.
I doubt the sheilds are stainless but even if they are (I have a new set on my 2011 RGU that I bought factory direct at the end of August) and I just went out and checked and a magnet sticks to both the headers and the heat shields telling me that if in fact stainless they still have iron in them.
where is the rust at, the shield or exhaust. I ordered some black 2-1s also. A friend suggested using s100 chrome polish to clean out the rust, he was sure that it did the black exhausts. When mying comes in, I'll try it. even the s100 tube that I have says that it will work on chrome and black metals as well.
I had the Black 2/1 Supermeg on my 2010 SG and it started to rust after 7 months. Yes, I do ride in the rain. I've since switched to Black Rinehart 4" Extremes TDs, ridie in the rain and they have no rust at all.
