Mine did that but I could hear music through the headset when the switch was flipped, eventually the problem because more frequently and then it stopped all together... broken circuit board in the HK unit.
Haven't been able to recreate it in the garage yet. Although usually it won't do it on the road until 45+ minutes it seems. Here lately most of my rides are only 30 minutes to/from workand it does't act up usually. I can't seem to let it play long enough in the garage. Just 10 minutes seems like an eternity when I'm just sitting there waiting for it to act up. Patience isn't one of my strong points.
Probably a cracked circuit board. Wonder if your bike has the updated (shortened) handlebar bracket bolts? The longer ones were hitting the bottom of the radio and causing the circuit boards to malfunction. Iron Cross fixed me up and with the new shorter bolts, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Oh, there's a service bulletin out on the bolts but you have to buy them, go figure....
