Anyone know if there is a way to empty the fuel tank through the quick release supply line fitting ? I am guessing that the pump is on the other side and would need to be hot wired to pass fuel. I just hate draining at the crossover tube.
I doubt if there's an easy way other than the crossover - you can use a lift pump to get at some of it via the fill port, but, eventually, you'll have to drain it the old fashioned way. I assume you want to remove the tank. Tilt it backwards as soon as you remove the crossover and spillage is kept to a minimum.
On EFI bikes the moco's suggested method is at the crossover tube.
Also, pull the fuse to the fuel pump and start the bike to run until she quits to release the high pressure (58 psi) at the quick disconnect.
Due to the way the fuel pump, filter, and associated hoses are routed within the tank on an EFI bike you probably won't be able to get as much out as you can at the crossover.
You can syphon a large portion of the fuel from the tank prior to pulling the crossover.
On carbed bikes you can drain at the petcock once you trip the vacuum shutoff.
Using the crossover to drain the tank is the only to get all the fuel out.
Cut the small clamp, get ready to put your finger over the hose once you pull it off. I put the small crossover hose into a much larger clear hose and let it drain into a gas tank. You can use small needle nose vice grips to shut off the flow should you need to stop at any point. There is no pressure in the cross over hose, only static pressure from the fuel in the tank. Use a new small hose clamp to install the crossover tube once you are done. Makes a mess if you are not carefull.
