Replacing HD stick on velcro
Not sure how many people have had to do this but I recently bought some used parts that did not come with the attaching velcro because it was still glued on the original owners bike. I also have a few freinds that have had there tour pack lid organizers fall off when the glue got hot.
I new I wanted an industrial 3M product based on past experience with them through several workplaces. I checked online at the shop3m website and found part number 70-0067-0643 hook and loop fastener kit. It contains 10 ft of hook and loop X 1" wide. This P/N has an acrylic glue rated at 200 degrees and is recomended for products with High Surface Energy. I had heard of SE but never realy worked directly with it or new what was or wasn't rated HSE. Another Google and found a list of HSE products and ABS was on it. As I beleive the bags and tour packs are ABS I order it for $16.
Has anyone else tried this product and did it work. My freinds glue residue from the HD glue that fell off appears to be a rubber base glue. 3M's rubber base glues were only rated to 120 degrees and I can see where that would not be enough on a sizzler inside the TP.
These strips do not come with installation instructions so I used the standard method of cleaning the glue surface with alcohol (not JD) and made sure surface temp was 70* and let stand without load @70* for 24 hrs (I waited 48 hrs because our weather guy hates Harley Riders and people who cook chicken on the grill).
I will post again at the end of summer but for now anybody needing velcro w/adhesive I think this is better ythan the stuff (even 3M) you can get at the big box. BTW when you are checking out and asked if this is for Industrial/Proffessional use only you should know what to say.
