Default Reaflections on installing truck-lite LED headlight and passing lamps

Just thought I would share some of the observations I just went through and ask for input. Install was on a 2009 FLHTCU with OEM lighting and hardware.

1. It's totally worth the effort. Difference is astounding

2. When you install the headlighht (KH-2261v6) it is simple and straightforward. Mark a wall so you can reaim after install....now, what they don't tell you is that if you use the OEM trim ring, your new LED headlight will stick out well in front of the trim ring and you will need the wider HD trim ring or similar...more tips, the wider trim ring installs OVER the OEM trim ring, it does not replace the trim ring. Slight frustration there.

3. Passing lamps are another story. In this case part #KH-2262

4. The passing lamps will not install with the OEM trim rings and the OEM adaptor ring, its too tight...if you want to try, the curve of the adaptor ring goes away from the lamp

5. The lamps will not install in the OEM trim rings without an adaptor plate, it's too lose

6. So, I purchased HD part69622-99B, passing lamp trim rings.

7. The lamps KH2262 do not have the tabs(well, barely has one) that fit the notches in the OEM adaptor ring.

8. My final install consisted of the new 69622-99B with the KH2262 and no adaptor ring..the lamp case is supported by the provided rubber strip...I hope/doubt that heat will be an issue

9. Observation: diameter of LED passing lamp beam is MUCH wider than the OEM passing lamps and I hope that won't be an issue and I get flashed a lot.

Sorry no pictures, I was pressed for time....I would appreciate any and all input about your experiences during install to see if others have similar issues.

Question, the Trim Ring is this an add-on or something that is on the stock lights, you can't install the lights with a stock setup without additional parts? Thanks

Interesting. Would like to see closeup pics of the final install when you have time.

Thanks.

Does the kit builder provide a list of additional items needed to complete the job or is it a surprise for the extra $ that must be spent to make a finished install? From your write-up, I suspect this was a surprise. Therefor, what is the TOTAL expense for a completed job, headlight and passing lights separately, for those who might want to do the job in steps.

That's a lot of money for the parts not to be complete. Seems to be common with Harley. The parts always seem to be sold with additional items needed. pretty smart on their part or profit that is. sucks for us. Eventually I think I will get a set for myself. Thanks for the info.

Good write up. I just completed my upgrade for the headlights and passing lamps on my 05 Road King.

The old terminals on the passing lamp wires would not plug into the pigtail coming out of the new passing lamps. I had to cut and splice the wires.

The new lights sure light up the night and must not be too bad to oncoming traffic because I haven't been flashed yet.

As you noted, the trim rings were a surprise - both the headlight and the passing lamps.

Since I had HD giftcards and didn't want another black T-Shirt, I got my dealer to order the headlight from Kuryakyn for $299 and the passing lamps for $109/ea(plus tax). Then after installing the headlight and finding the OEM ring didn't cover the lamp adequately, I purchased a wider HD brand trim ring for $37. When I started the passing lamps, I noted the issues with the adaptor ring and figured I would need a similar solution as the headlight so that was another trip for the passing lights wider trim rings. *think it was about $45? - I figure the total outlay including tax was around $650, but if I hadn't been dealing with the gift cards, I could have beat the prices on the inet. I just hadn't noted anyone reporting install issues and wanted to get it out there so others would understand it isn't quite plug and play - at least that was my experience

I already had the extended trim rings installed so no problem there. Spots worked fine as long as I left the spacers out.
