I've been reading many of the threads about aftermarket shields for my new SG, figuring I was going to want to do some sort of recurve, or funky shaped shield for it in the spring. There are almost too many vendors to choose from.
Anyway, my Sunday morning cruise of Craigslist uncovered someone not far away selling a 6.5" Klock Werks Flare shield for about $100. Seemed to get lots of good feedback, other than the price of a new one, but $100 (or maybe a bit less) seems like a decent deal.
Anyway, my primary concern is whether I will be able to see over it at all. I'm 5'8" with a 30" inseam, I seem to be able to see over the stock HD screen just fine. I just have the stock seat, nothing lowered. I can't ride the bike over to him (because it's frickin freezing out, and because the bike is in storage at the dealer).
Anyone of similar height running that screen? Can you see over it well? Does it work well for you at that height?
I'm thinking of just taking the chance, seems like I'd probably be able to re-sell it easy enough.
If it is smoked, you will be able to see though it. If it is Black, you will not be able to see through it with a one million candle powered light. It might as well be solid led. The curve takes a lot of getting use to. The distortion in the view going through corners is a little scary at first. Over time you wont have any issues. I lowered my bike and had to get rid of my KWs because the curve I was looking through became too much to deal with. Their customer service is horrible. The woman you speak with is extremely rude. I don't know how they stay in business with that woman answering the phone.
I just recently got the Harley long riding windshield, which is concaved at the top. I do not like the look too much, but is really nice on the freeways. I'm most likely going to be trying another windshield in a few months. I'm looking right now.
I had the KWs for a year and a half and it started cracking at the bottom, where the holes line up for the batwing. I called KWs about it and they basically said I misused their windshield and to pound sand. I’ll never recommend them, or buy their product again.
i have 6.5 and i am 6 ft tall, think i want a 8.5 windshield for me. the 6.5 should work fine for you.i do get good bit of wind with the 6.5, thats why i want the 8.5.but than i have a streetglide seat coming in so will see how that works with the 6.5.
my .02
We are about the same build, and I can see over mine by about 2" at a spot 50' in front of bike. Somewhere I read that should be your goal looking point.
