Default air reservoir handlebars

I am considering replacing the handle bars on my '93 FLHTC What modifications will have to do on the new bars to retain the 'air reservior' feature on my existing OEM Bars?? Any Advice is appreciated!!

You should be able to get bars of most styles with or without the air reservior feature. Keep in mind that the new touring bikes don't even have an air front suspension, so you can probably just let all the air out, and not worry about that feature on the front end. Check with a real mechanic before you go that route, as I am not sure it can be done safely. I do know that I couldn't tell any difference in the front end when I ran my '95 roadking with or without air.

I do know that on my Roadking the front air valve was under nacelle on the left side, and not in the handle bar. It should be easy enough to make this conversion using parts from a later model. It's just a rubber hose that goes to the shocks.

Regards,

Bill

Thanks Bill for your help!!!!! I was thinking about even finding a small air bottle and hiding it somewhere on the bike to replace the volume the handlebars would have held.......what do you think of this idea??

Steve

The earlier bikes are the ones with the air reserve in the bars (anti dive feature). The later ones such as the road king still have the air feature but no reserve in the bars, you may not even need the bottle. The latest RK's don't have the air in the front end any longer. I believe the bars function was more air capacity for cushier ride, when you hit the brake, the anti dive solenoid would close and you would just use the air in the forks, not the bars otherwise it would dive real bad, that's how you knew if the solenoid was working

Steve,

I'm not sure that there is a need for the volume in the handle bars at all. I'm guessing that it was just a way that HD used to get the air where they wanted it in a convienent manner. I would almost bet that there is not any difference in the front end between the older models and the newer ones without the handle bar reserve. Again check with a mechanic to confirm just ot be safe.

Regards,

Bill

My '95 requires 15 lbs. minimum according to owner manual. Later models (at least the '98) could run 0 lbs. Must be some difference in the forks?????????????

My guess would be stiffer springs.
