Default Yaffe Monkey bar wiring question

here we go again....another Yaffe Monkey bar question-help thread...I've been researching them and looking at pics and talked to my Harley dealer and guys at Yaffe. Thought I had everything figured out until last part of phone conversation with service guy at Harley dealer. They gave me install price of 3 hours @ $80 per hour...I was like AWESOME...make me an appt and order the stuff! Then I found out that was labor WITHOUT running wiring thru bars???????????? I was like...say what? I didn't think anyone did them without running all the wires thru the bars...wouldnt that just look like a complete train wreck or no? Asking guys with these bars to chime in on how they have them set up.....apparently labor to run everything thru the bars is $750....thanks

If you can do the work yourself, you should. $750 buys a lot more parts for the Harley.

Wiring the bars, although a pain in the ***, is not overly difficult. Just takes time and patience.

And yes, it would look like a train wreck if they weren't wired internally.

I was quoted between $700 and $950. One quote was open ended based on actual time. Talked to 5 different dealers/Indy's.

Decided to take on the job myself and save the money. Now that I have all the wires pulled and am ready to start assembly I feel much better.

There were a few moments when I thought it might have been worth spending the money. However I would probably always wonder how much care they actually took extending wires and pulling them thru.

Good luck with your decision.

ps. took the savings and invested in speakers, amp and a power vision.

There are many threads with notes on the install. I've personally created some pretty detailed ones myself.

Worst case, you get into the project and need to hit the forums for details and advice.

Many have done this, and contrary to what the dealers would love for you to believe, this is not a difficult install, just involved. Research and asking the forums will get you well on your way.

Definitely do it yourself. It will give you an appreciation for the labor costs you were quoted. There's no way you are going to get those bars internally wired and mounted in 3 hours, even if you don't have to extend your brake lines, clutch and throttle cables. If you also have to extend the brake lines, your brakes will need to be bled. If you extend the clutch cable, it will need to be re-adjusted. If you're pre-tbw, extending the throttle cables are pretty simple, but still need to be adjusted. Nothing is difficult, just time-consuming.

If you don't have patience pay to have it done.

well...Id love to do it myself...Just don't want to break anything. I have done almost everything on my bike so far myself but none of it has been too mechanical. I even installed the Biketronics radio...everyone wanted $500 to install that and I said no way I'm gonna try it. It wasn't that bad. I would have to say THE most challenging thing I've put on were those chrome switch cover caps! WOW had to make 2 beer runs to get through that...had to walk away many times to keep from losing my temper lol But I got it done and have the satisfaction of doing it myself. Id like to be able to say the same bout these bars someday....
