How to check tranny fluid?

Default How to check tranny fluid?

just got an 01 electra glide. do I check the tranny fluid straight up or on the kick stand? hot or cold? what size alan is the is the level cap?

Use the dipstick. Should be about 11mm. Older bikes needed to be upright to check. I'm not exactly sure on yours. If you pull the dipstick it should say.

Hot/Cold doesn't matter. If it's hot let it settle for a minute or two before you check it just like you would a car.

Manual for my '03 is level upright position with the filler plug/dipstick resting on the threads. Tighten to 25-75 inch pounds.

What he said. That is the way all of my manuals have said to check the fluid on any Harley I have ever owned.

Except for oil which is resting on the kick stand.

Once a proper level has been established ( measured upright etc.).

put the bike on the jiffy and measure again- and make a mark on your dipstick, that allows you to do quick measurements on the jiffy.

If the level doesn't reach the bottom of the dipstick, you can eye ball it if the exhaust etc. allows you to see into the dipstick cavity
