Question ZUMO and ride planner

I installed the HD Road Tech ZUMO (660) and painted inner fairing on my ultra about 2 months ago. I am now using the HD ride planner and have a few rides downloaded to the ZUMO. The rides have location stops and a few way points on the route. So when I look at it on the ZUMO the ride is broken down by each individual location and way point. How will this work when I want to ride the entire route I'm trying to have some routes pre planned so I wont need to keep looking a a map etc. when i'm in Laconia this year. I thought the route that I see on the ride planner would also show up on the ZUMO as a complete route. If anyone has info it would be a big help. I cant seem to find this answer on the help of the ride planner or the ZUMO. thanks Jeff

Don't have a answer to your question however, you might try asking the same question on the Zumo forum;

If you want the whole route, don't use locations, use waypoints instead. Have a start location and an end location. You can start out with locations when doing your route, and then change them to waypoints by right clicking them and choosing change to waypoint..

The GPS will notify you that the waypoint is coming up.

Also use LOTS of waypoints. This prevents the GPS from second guessing and over riding the way you want to go. Even if you are going 200 miles on the same road, break it up into a bunch of waypoints.

I plotted out a 2 week road vacation last summer, and it was spot on. If your trip is multi-day, the GPS will take up where it left of the next day.

If I remember correctly there is also software on the CD, I think it is called Mapsource, which you can you to build your own routes and then load them into the Zumo. Then again I might be geezin' about where I got the software but check the CD anyway.

I used it last year for my Sturgis trip. I planned the route starting in Maryland to Colorado. Then laid out several rides in Colorado which gradually took me north and then finished it up with a custom route up through the Rockies, into Wyoming, and then over to Sturgis.

HD ride planner is way better than the mapsource. Much easier to use.... and it uses GOOGLE maps as the overlay.

Thumbs up

OK thanks, so the locations should be used as a starting and ending location then use the way point for places in between. I will modify the plans, I have a trip planned for next year cross country from NY and back that's about 7k right now and i want to have most of it planned on the GPS and then just do some side trips. So this is still a learning experience for me with the ZUMO. I never had a GPS until now and always used maps. thanks for the help. Jeff

You can type the stops in to the left side planner. Once you have all your locations set, just right click on them and change them to waypoints. Only leave the start and end points as locations. Then your route will run in the GPS as a single trip.

You can also drag the route to the road you want to ride..... but remember to use lots of waypoints so the GPS doesn't try to use other roads.

Here's an example with a start/end and waypoints http://rideplanner.harley-davidson.c...4&locale=en_US 1 and 6 are start/end 2 3 4 5 are waypoints.

Thanks for the info. I'm planning out an AZ/NM trip and want to add the route to my Zumo 660.

Very good info, I had the same questions when planning routes and just gave up and used map source. I'll give it another try as it's much easier to use.
