I recently purchased Ohlins #3-4 rear shocks from Howard at Motorcycle Metal. I have installed Ohlins on numerous Ducati's, BMW's and Jap bikes in the past and have found them to be a huge improvement over stock.
I only have a few miles on my Electra Glide Ohlins shocks so it's too early to give you a review but I did want to share my experiences with Howard. I've been buying aftermarket accessories for my motorcycles for nearly 40 years and I have never received the type of customer service Howard provides. When I ordered the shocks he suggested that I contact him when I am ready to do the installation so he could guide me through the process.
I called him on a Saturday morning and he spent over an hour on the phone explaining in detail how the shocks work, how the adjustments work and what to expect performance-wise and then stayed on the phone as I installed the shocks to make sure it was done correctly.
Could I have installed the shocks without his help? Yes. I've done it numerous times. But I learned a lot from him in that hour and I felt sure the shocks were installed properly.
Best part...the shocks were priced lower than other vendors charge and he did not charge a dime for spending an hour of his time explaining the shocks. Never had that level of service from any aftermarket purchase.
I'll post again after I've had an opportunity to break-in the shocks to let you know what I think of them.
I have spoken with Howard a few times and have my Ohlins on order. He is great to deal with! Now just waiting for the parts to arrive so he can build me a set.
I also had a good experience when I bought my #3-3 shocks from Howard. And like you, he was on the phone with me for installation, piece of cake to install. He is a very good sponsor by not only selling a very good product but, the support from him is hard to beat.
i placed my order., you all right about Howard.. great knowledge. looking forward to meet him in FL when i pick up my Ohlins... since its winter here,,, anyone have photos of doing a install of Ohllins 3-3's on a SG and few photos how you adjusted the shocks.. i wont be installing mine till Mid May when season begins here..
