to all you folks thinkin on buying a new touring bike. My advise would be to ride the bike you are going to buy before you buy..... I mean the exact bike...... touring class that is.
you may change your mind when you hear 5th at 45 to 60..
Instead, try it at 65-80, where 5th belongs. 45 in 5th is too slow, that's the 3-4 shift point for me if I'm cruisin'. If I'm getting on it, I'm not out of 3rd until 60. (4000 rpm)
I encourage buyers to demo ride the MODEL they want, as well as others. I thought my '04 FXDWG was good, until I rode a Heritage Softtail, then bought a '06 Road King, and then traded it on a '07 Road Glide......expensive way to go!
My 5th whines below 55 (65 when I first rode it). So does my wife's '07 Deluxe. The 96s aren't happy at 2000rpm when new. These aren't my Grandpa's Harley. They like to turn 3000 and up - at least that's where both of ours make power. It's also where 5th quiets down - may be harmonics. We're getting pipes/air/maps right now, so we'll see if that changes. If not, that's fine with us - they run great and way outperform the '04 FXDLI and '06 FLHRI they replaced.
you know what,, who cares, its got a 2 yr war,
just drink more, louder tunes, put on straights,
pizz on em, "tude
its harleys way of brining us back to the 60-70's era,, bad biker image
