occasionally ride with mine off but not as much as i thought i would, usually miss it after about a week of riding without it, handling doesn't change enough to make me want to ride more without it, ive had to buy another seat; looks better than stock and purchase a rack to hold the tour pak while its off and the damn thing is heavy and awkward to handle putting on and off, but to each his own, some take it off hardly ever put it back on.

If it was just the cost of the detachable tour pack hardware it wouldnt be bad. but add in all the hidden parts you need and a seat blah blah blah its pretty damn expensive.

Default I Wouldn't!

I have an 09 Road King with a quick release tourpak. I added aux. lighting to the pak and while it can be removed I doubt that I will. I'd have to remove the seat each time (to unplug) to remove it, but, I enjoy the convenience of having it on all the time. There is no discernable difference in handling, with or without it!

I waited a year and a half before adding the detachable kit.

I love my bike with out the trunk and the badlander seat.

Feels like I now have two bikes. One ultra and a street glide.

I have an '11 Limited also. Removable Tour Pak was the very 1st thing I did to it.
It's great, like having 2 bikes. OL rides her own Lowrider so I rarely have a rider. Go on a long one I throw it on. To work and around town it's on the garage wall. Couldn't be happier.

I ride an '02 Road King and added the Tour Pak soon after I bought it. I prefer to ride without the whale bubble on the back. To me, it looks and handles better. I have a new SG on order and I will order/install the Tour Pack right away. So while I don't ride around town with it (usually), I often use it on longer trips, especially if I need to carry a tent/etc. with me. Easy on/off, but very pricey! My expandable T-Bag is just as nice, but for some reason I like the Tour Pak.

I don't have the quick release, but have considered it. For my personal use I can't see spending that kind of $$$ for something I "may" take off a few times. If you are taking it off for the "handling" I wouldn't really waste my time. Sure you will shed a few pounds however I can't imagine that it would really make a huge difference.

BL, if you will use it a lot around town (SG look) and you also tour a lot (Ultra look) then it will probably be worth it to you. This is one of those "how much is the cost versus the gain worth to you” sort of things.

I am on my 2nd detach trunk kit first was on my 04 egc and now on my 2011 RGU if you can do the work yourself which is easy they are around $500 from jon at horny toad harley in temple tx he posts here as pc pain. I have close to 100,000 between the two bikes and for me it is a bout a 50/50 split with or without best improvement I have made to the bikes. It is a two minute job to remove them and maybe 5 minutes to put it back on. I tried the just take the trunk off without the kit on my egc and that lasted one time before getting the kit. It might not be for everyone but I sure like it.
