Default Solo seat without driver backrest? No problem!

For a few bucks and a trip to the hardware store you can convert your short passenger backrest to a drivers backrest in 10 minutes or less.

I loaned my C&C solo seat with backrest to a friend who wanted to try it out for awhile. The weather turned nice and I wanted to ride but needed a backrest. The 2012 CVO Street Glide seat has no provisions for a drivers backrest so I made my own. I reversed the pad on my short passenger backrest and mounted the upright backwards on the shock mount. Then removed the mounting bolt of the front saddle bag support and installed a stainless steel turn-buckle using a 1/4" by 1" bolt. Bolted detachable spools from a leftover detachable mount to the other end of the turn buckle and presto! It has a little forward movement on the shock mount but is solid as a rock when leaned against. Doesn't look too bad in a pinch.

That's freaking brilliant. You might want to replace the plastic latches with the chrome ones, for a little extra strength. http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US But brilliant none the less.

Yes on the latter. I stood there with my backrest in one hand and a scotch in the other...pondered untill the scotch was gone then went to the hardware store.

WOW!

Great fine! Would you mine posting what you had to pick up at the local hardware store? I never use my short sissy bar and may convert it to your set up

Thanks,

I love it. I'd been thinking about tinkering to figure out if it could be done. Nice job...way cleaner than I would've come up with!

Any idea where I could get the spools?

Often the best ideas are the simplest and this is brilliant. I am going to give this a try with my stock police seat and see how it works.

Edit...

So I got a chance to fit the backrest and it looks good:

Now I need to go to the Tacoma Screw for the parts or maybe one of the local marine stores for chrome pieces...

Awesome, another project.
