Default A Little Help Please

I am near completion on the install of my LA Choppers Prime Apes. I am having a problem getting the clutch and brake lever units back on. The wires coming out of the switch housings going into the bars are in the way. I contacted Chucky at LA last night and he said to try and get the grips on further. I tried this morning and they are as far as they can go. I think the pictures below show what is happening. Any suggestions? Anyone have this problem in the past?

Thanks
Joe

looks like you have a thick bundle there.... can you rewrap or otherwise slim down that bundle? My brother had the same problem and we wound up stagger slicing the wires... making a slimmer bundle.. slid right in.

Hope this helps .. there are many other guys on here with a ton load of experience who may have better advice for you.

I'm no expert, but looking at the pictures you can see where it appears you've already worn through the electrical/duct tape holding it all together and exposing one of the wires. I'm thinking something is amiss (thus the post) and that bundle needs to thin out. Thinking HD Jim's idea is a good option.

I am in the same process now. Try to rotate the top portion of the switch housing so those wires ride though the switch housing and up the ramp within the housing closer to the throttle side.

Thank You bspencer I will try that this evening when I get home from work.

HD Jim are you talking about cutting wires or just the casing? I did not make any connections coming out of the housings an that is the stock casing on the wires. I was originally thinking about cutting into the casing and separating the wires a bit and trying to stuff them in tighter a few at a time.

Was not sure if that would be a good idea...

To me it looks like LA Choppers is right and the assembly needs to go on further. Pull the grip off and measure the bar, and the inside of the grip to make sure it's going all the way on. Also check the grip for obstructions on the inside that might prevent it from going all the way on.

It's also possible that the slot was cut in the wrong place, as in to far inward.

is that tape wrapped bundle of wires stock? its way to thick and needs to be slimmed down. if you can get away with it... see if you can just cut the casing.. but I would go with cutting and slicing the wires further from the control end.

In fact, I would cut & splice with the bars off the bike...making the splices at the bottom on the bars.

HD makes a 60" TBW extension , that may be a better option depending on your soldering skills.
