I've used blems. They're safe & you usually can't even find the blem without a detailed inspection. I won't pay a shop $300/$400 for a tire I can buy, mount, & balance myself for $100 to $170.
Sent the tire back got another one. This was years ago on my 1993 rice rocket. Don't ride those any longer.
See i wasnt lying about dennis k good move as far as the e.3 go to d.k web punch your bike specs and get your tire size + price most indys will mount it for half hour labor and take it off the scoot for you.
I am a HOG member and my sponsoring dealer gives a discount of 15% on parts and 10% on labor. Which I usually take advantage of. So I need a new rear tire for my Ultra. my Hog dealer quoted me 400 bucks for the Dunlop D402 slim whitewall MU85 16. I thought that was a little high myself. So i just happened to be in another nearby dealer and asked for the exact same install and tire. They told me 301 out the door. tax included... jeeez what a price difference for the same install. I am wondering about the so called "discount" that we supposed to get. I am not sure if I want to play the price game between the 2 because i am in the HOG dealer quite often and they will probably get po'ed about it. I also got the 301 price printed as a "quote". I still don't understand where the difference is. Must be labor time. Just venting here..... Jeff
Here in arizona I paid for a 180 60 16 rear tire 250 out the door so you are getting ripped off big time
Last fall my stock Dunlop was finished. It went 17000 kms if I remember correctly so I figured I would get another Dunlop. Mileage was really good out of the first one. I paid 320 out the door for the Harley badged tire.
Now remember I am in Canada. Americans get tires, parts etc at like 40% less than we pay. So if you are in the states somewhere I would expect that you should be out the door for less than 250. 300 isn't bad,400 is ridiculous.

The belt guard on an ultra has hash marks on it, and I use it, I push up about as hard as I can with 2 fingers on the belt, and it goes up to the 5th mark, that is a good tension, I figure it is about 10 to 12 pounds, because of the angle.
I might add to the other responses-I would have no problem telling the higher priced dealer why he wasnt getting my business for the tire replacement. $400 is crazy and likely fairly common. I like many others order the tire online, remove the wheel myself and the indy mounts it. Gives me the chance to clean where I wouldnt normally take the effort to get to and spend some quality time in the garage.
Some dealers charge MSRP and other are more greedy.
For example......my local dealer charges $7.95 for std. 6R12 spark plug!
I just bought 2 plugs friday and bill was less 8.00 for both. I went in the garage to find the ticket so I could give you to the penny but I must have put it where I can find it. I also think my dealer was 200. and a few dollars for front tire and labor.
Kroozeabout.
Wow.... I cant believe the OP is worried about upsetting his dealer??? Seriously? In whose pocket will that $100 be better off? These f'ing dealers NEED TO EARN our business, and we as group need to walk..... no RUN, from the crooked ones as fast as possible. I'm sitting here shaking my head thinking what's the problem? The dealer that quoted you $100.00 LESS just EARNED your business. Just sayin'
+1 on that- now for another Pendleton and Coke. I have my Indy
do my tires when needed.
Getting a back put on my 2006 FLHX tomorrow. My local dealer is running his winter special... $25 install and 10% of in-stock tires. Quoted me $210 plus tax.
