I am a HOG member and my sponsoring dealer gives a discount of 15% on parts and 10% on labor. Which I usually take advantage of. So I need a new rear tire for my Ultra. my Hog dealer quoted me 400 bucks for the Dunlop D402 slim whitewall MU85 16. I thought that was a little high myself. So i just happened to be in another nearby dealer and asked for the exact same install and tire. They told me 301 out the door. tax included... jeeez what a price difference for the same install. I am wondering about the so called "discount" that we supposed to get. I am not sure if I want to play the price game between the 2 because i am in the HOG dealer quite often and they will probably get po'ed about it. I also got the 301 price printed as a "quote". I still don't understand where the difference is. Must be labor time. Just venting here..... Jeff
I do the lobor myself but have the dealer mount the tire , $130 for a Elite and $45 to mount and balance , the $300 seems like plenty but then thats called free enterprise , just be glad you get that discount LOL
I have never had a dealer change my tire for me...I take my wheel off and take it to a INDY shop...$20 to swap...they check my bearings and balance it...10 tires later still doing this....The only way i would let a dealer do it is if i needed one on a trip....Would use my tire warranty....
There is a local dealer in my area that pulls the same crap. I just started going to another dealer when I have something I can't do myself. Tires is one of them I just don't want to take the risk with.
Wow.... I cant believe the OP is worried about upsetting his dealer??? Seriously? In whose pocket will that $100 be better off? These f'ing dealers NEED TO EARN our business, and we as group need to walk..... no RUN, from the crooked ones as fast as possible. I'm sitting here shaking my head thinking what's the problem? The dealer that quoted you $100.00 LESS just EARNED your business. Just sayin'
I am not sure if I want to play the price game between the 2 because i am in the HOG dealer quite often and they will probably get po'ed about it. ..... Jeff
Your H.O.G. sponsoring dealer doesn't care if you get po'ed about getting ripped off.
My money goes to the place that gives me the best deal.
