When I took my 2010 FLHTC in for the break light switch recall they checked the lights first and the brake light wasn't working. They did the recall and it now works fine. Must be an indication that the switch is going bad.

My apologies for not giving details. Guess I posted this before my morning coffee ritual. My bike is a 2008 Road King Classic. The running light works, but no brake light from lever or brake pedal. I will check the switch again, but pretty sure I already looked at it. The brake light isn't stuck on, and I know the tab behind the lever is intact and functional (fought that battle on my last bike). I didn't check the bulbs with a meter and not really sure how to. Thanks for all the input.

To check the bulbs filament, you put your VOM in one of the resistance settings that measures Ohms. All you are checking for is continuity of the filament....meaning the bulb is good if you get continuity. You have to take the bulb out for this, of course.

Also check all of the wiring if it is not the bulb. Put your VOM on it's DC voltage measurement setting and see if you are getting voltage to the brake light socket when either of the brake levers are engaged. Just keep trouble shooting, you will find the culprit soon enough.

I'm too lazy to get my book out, by 08 were the tail lights single filament with a computer trick making the two intensities? If they are the single filament, the working running light says the bulb is good and the problem is elsewhere.

When my switch went out on my 09 RKC, the cruise wouldn't set.

Grrr, thought you guys would have the answer posted with more ideas. I have an 01RKC and been doing work on it all winter. FInally got it back together, but no brakelight. I only noticed as I went to put on an LED light and when checking it, no light. put the original back on, ditto. Both front and rear levers. Fuse is ok, swapped out relay with the identical starter relay next to it, which works, and still no light. what gives????

Nevermind.. when I just went to look at it further, I noticed both filaments were on. I obviously have 'pinched' a wire on the front lever since that is what I played with while doing some other upgrades...

Yup, the switch on the front brake wasnt being engaged by the lever, thus staying closed. But I lost the brass thingy for the idle/throttle cable.. grrrr.

I'll bet he has the correct answer. I had exactly the same problem on my 07 RK, fiddled a lot with the fuses, checked bulbs, nothing. It was the short wiring harness that has a bulb socket on one end and plugs into the bike's harness at the other end. There was no visible damage to this little harness, but one of the wires was apparently open-circuited internally. I recall it costing about $22.
