How do I remove the chrome from above the handle bars on a RKC ?? I want to change out my bars and can't figure out how to remove the chrome trim. I got the two screws from the column lock but there's still something I'm missing.
You have to take out the head light, then remove to nuts from under the top side of the headlight bucket.
It just isn't as easy as most handle bar changes....
It's a little bit of work but well worth it. I replaced my bars with Heritage bars and love the feel now.
There is a small nut under the nacelle that when removed, will allow you to remove the chrome strip that runs across the top. This strip covers the front screw on the handle bar clamp cover. You'll need to remove the screw which also has a small nut under it. Be careful not to drop either nut down into the nacelle. They are hell to find and get back out.
There's one back at the back, don't take the nut completely off. Its a long screw sticking down in thereand just loosen it up real good and you can get the peice off then. Reduces the chance of dropping the nut and washer back in there
I can talk you thru it over the phone. It only takes a few minutes to remove the trim pieces, headlight, and nacelle. PM me a phone number if you need help.
